“today all businesses are technology companies”

On October 18, MCPc, OHTech, and RITE hosted BusinessTECH18, attracting more than 1,500 attendees, including 300 students, to Cleveland Public Hall for Northeast Ohio’s premier technology event.

During his opening keynote on blockchain, Bernie Moreno stated, "today all businesses are technology companies". Throughout the conference his claim proved to be true. Breakout sessions in which powerful examples of technology’s continued impact on business, and our daily life, were shared by experts in the fields of security, healthcare, manufacturing, education, finance and more. Technology’s ubiquity underpinned all the topics discussed, whether intentionally or not.

John Carlin, the former Assistant Attorney General for National Security, presented his luncheon keynote, Dawn of the Code War, to a standing room only audience in Public Hall’s main auditorium. He explained countries formerly outmatched by the U.S. military are now executing successful attacks on the United States through the internet. Carlin’s message stressed our collective need to adapt to this new era of cyberthreat.

In the day’s final keynote, reformed hacker, Michael “MafiaBoy” Calce, validated Carlin’s statements by exposing specific security vulnerabilities adversaries may use to hack us, our businesses, and our countries.
